American actor Richard Gere arrived in South Korea on Monday at Incheon International Airport along with his wife, actress Carey Lowell and their son, Homer Gere, to promote his Buddhist-themed photo exhibition and experience Korea’s traditional Buddhist culture.
Gere, who is known for his Buddhist faith, is scheduled to meet with Venerable Jaseung, head of the Jogye Order in Seoul on Tuesday.
He will attend promotional events on Wednesday for his photography exhibition, titled “Pilgrim,” which is currently being held at Seoul Arts Center in Seoul. The exhibition runs till July 24.
The exhibition features a total of 64 photographs of Tibet and India that are taken by Gere himself, as well as 24 photos of Tibet by 24 photographers, including Annie Leibovitz, Steve Meisel and Jerry Uelsmann.
On Thursday, Gere is scheduled to visit Tongdosa near Yangsan City, South Gyeongsang Province for a Templestay program, said Jogye Order. There, he will stay the night in the mountainside temple and participate in its meditation, early-morning chanting, and other Buddhist practices.
Gere is scheduled to leave on June 25.

리차드 기어, 한국에서 일정은?
할리우드 스타 리처드 기어가 아내 캐리 로웰 (Carrey Lowell), 아들 호머 기어(Homer Gere)와 함께 월요일 한국에 도착했다. 그는 예술의 전당에서 열릴 자신의 사진전 ‘순례의 길’을 홍보하고 한국의 전통 사찰 문화를 체험할 예정이다.
불교 신자인 리처드 기어는 화요일 조계종 관계자와도 만날 예정이다.
그리고 수요일에는 사진전 홍보행사에 참가할 예정이다. 이번 사진전은 7월 24일까지 전시가 계속된다.
사진전은 리처드 기어가 티베트와 인도 잔스카르 지역을 여행하며 직접 찍은 64점의 사진이 전시되며, 아울러 그의 자선활동에 공감하는 애니 레이보비츠, 제리 율스만, 조엘 피터 위트킨, 스티븐 마이젤, 제리 율스만 등 세계적인 사진작가 24명의 작품도 함께 내걸린다.
목요일 그는 통도사를 방문하여 템플 스테이에 참가할 예정이다. 그리고 토요일 다시 출국할 예정이다.
