Mahindra Group ― a global company with global standards
In the last few years it has become clear that the globe’s economic center of gravity is shifting toward Asia. Naturally, this means that their financial, structure, operations, products and services are increasingly coming under the microscope. One very important factor that influences the image and long-term potential of

RAV4: A worthy rival for the Santa Fe?
The beloved RAV4 was strategically reborn as a compact crossover this year, and Toyota is betting on capturing the hearts of SUV-loving Koreans by competing with Honda’s CRV, Volkswagen’s Tiguan and, more importantly, Hyundai’s Santa Fe. This year’s model is the car’s third facelift, and the Japanese carmaker expects to do some serious damage to its rivals, a pledge conscious of the fact that the RAV4, despite having sold more than 4 million cars elsewhere, has failed to become popular in Korea.

Europe vehicle sales post first gain in 19 months on Germany
European Union car sales rose in April for the first time since September 2011, adding to signs that the 27-nation bloc’s recession may be short-lived. Registrations of new passenger cars in the EU increased 1.7 percent from the year-earlier period to 1.04 million vehicles, the Brussels-based European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, or ACEA, said Friday. Four-month sales fell 7.1 percent to 4.03 million vehicles. Consumer confidence in the EU increased in April to the highest level since

The art of tire design
GWANGJU ― The scene at Kumho Tire’s research and development center was of nine young designers working with an unusual canvas ― black, rubber tires. Their office, filled with the scent of rubber, looked more like a repair shop than a design lab. But it was here that two Red Dot Award-winning tires were born. “Small differences can make a tire unique, although most consumers would never notice,” said senior researcher Park Jae-pil. “Our mission is to create tires that can go faster and last long

Toyota unshackled as Abe drives Japanese yen back to 100
Toyota Motor Corp.’s half-decade of fighting the yen is over, at least for now. The weakening yen breached 100 against the dollar in U.S. trading on Friday, paving the way for Japan to emerge from an unprecedented and largely uninterrupted five-year stretch where the currency’s appreciation beyond that level roiled exporters and their ability to sell cars and televisions overseas. The yen had last traded at 100 four years ago. While its return to that level may usher in an era in which Toyota an

Hyundai braces for tough race in U.S. luxury market
Hyundai Motor’s premium strategy in the U.S. has recently hit a snag. Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Mong-koo immediately urged a prompt response to the lackluster performance, which came amid a booming U.S. luxury car market. “Premium car sales are crucial for Hyundai’s brand image. The weak sales of such

Europe is a big concern for General Motors as well as other carmakers. In order to achieve the carmaker’s goal of becoming profitable by mid-decade in the regions, Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet Europe, shoulders a heavy responsibility. “Last year, Chevrolet sold 195,000 cars in Western and Central Europe for a market sha

Customer service key for market competitiveness
